Sheila Dikshit appointed as Kerala Governor

Sheila Dikshit, a former three-term Chief Minister of Delhi, was appointed Governor of Kerala within three months  of her defeat in the recent Assembly polls.
A Rashtrapati Bhavan spokesperson on Tuesday night said that 75-year-old Dikshit succeeds Nikhil Kumar, a former Delhi Police Commissioner, who resigned on Tuesday. The resignation of 72-year-old Kumar, who took over as Governor of Kerala in March last year, has been accepted. Kumar was earlier Governor of Nagaland from October 2009.

sheila Dikshit (born 31 March 1938) is an Indian politician who has been the 22nd Governor of Kerala since 2014. Previously she served as Chief Minister of Delhi from 1998 to 2013. Dikshit led the Indian National Congress to a record three consecutive electoral victories in Delhi. She is often credited for Delhi's growing infrastructure including roads and flyovers, a less polluted city, better public transport system as well as development on the health and educational fronts. However, she was also criticized for her lack of control over law enforcement, leading to rise of crime in Delhi. In December 2013 elections to the Legislative Assembly of Delhi, Dikshit was defeated in her own constituency, New Delhi, by the anti-corruption politician Arvind Kejriwal. She was subsequently appointed as Governor of Kerala on 4 March 2014.
Ø  2008 She was shortlisted for the World Mayor award.
Ø  2008 As Chief Minister of Delhi, Dikshit was awarded the Best Chief Minister of India, by Journalist Association of India on 12 July 2008.
Ø  2009 She was awarded the Politician of the Year by NDTV.
Ø  2010 Dikshit was conferred with the prestigious Dara Shikoh award by the Indo-Iran Society for her contribution to peace, harmony and brotherhood.
Ø  2013 Dikshit was awarded for Delhi Women of the Decade Achievers Awards 2013, ASSOCHAM Ladies League for Outstanding Public Service.
