'Glimpses of India' festival to be held in 12 Chinese cities

Seeking to enhance people-to-people understanding, India will hold a series  of cultural and business events across 12 Chinese cities to mark 'India-China Year of Friendly Exchanges'.
Indian Embassy in Beijing along with its Consulates in Shanghai, Guangzhou and Hong Kong will organise series of events under the "Glimpses of India" festival. The Friendly Exchanges initiative has already been formally inaugurated by the Chinese Vice President Li Yuanchao at India's Republic Day reception here last month while his Indian counterpart Hamid Ansari kicked off the same at the Chinese Embassy in New Delhi recently.
"The Glimpses of India Festival will feature Indian performing arts, exhibitions of modern Indian art and calligraphy, visual and photographic exhibitions on Buddhist heritage of India and links with China," the Indian Embassy said in a statement on Monday.
The festival will also depict India's scientific achievements, food and film festivals, as well as events involving eminent Indian and Chinese scholars and writers. Tourism and business promotion events will also constitute key components of the Festival.
The 12 Chinese cities that will witness activities associated with the festival include Beijing, Chongqing, Chengdu, Guangzhou, Hangzhou, Hong Kong, Dali, Kunming, Shanghai, Urumqi, Lhasa andQingdao.
The first set of events will be held beginning April 2014 in the cities of Beijing, Chengdu, and Hong Kong.  The activities and exchanges under the Glimpses of India Festival will further strengthen the people-to-people dimension of the India-China Strategic and Cooperative Partnership and contribute towards enhancing the understanding of India in China, it said.
