Veteran film actress Nanda passes away in Mumbai




Veteran film actress Nanda passed away in Mumbai this morning at the age of 75 years. Nanda was the daughter of Master Vinayak, a Marathi actor-director. She worked as a child artist in early fifties' films like ‘Jaggu’ and ‘Angaarey’.

V Shantaram who was an associate of Master Vinayak, gave Baby Nanda her big break when he cast her in his successful brother-sister saga 'Toofan Aur Diya' in 1956. Nanda also played character roles in films like 'Bhabhi' and 'Chhoti Bahen'.
Nanda then went on to star as the leading lady in 1961 in 'Hum Dono'. Actor Shashi Kapoor acted with her in several films, their most famous being the superhit film 'Jab Jab Phool Khile' in 1965. Her biggest super-hits came later as the lead heroine in ‘Ittefaq’, ‘The Train’ and 'Joru Ka Ghulam' opposite Superstar Rajesh Khanna. After a touching cameo in Manoj Kumar's 'Shor' in 1972, Nanda gradually retreated from the film industry. She made a come back in the 80s to act in three movies, 'Prem Rog', 'Aahista-Aahista', and 'Mazdoor'.
